Information and advice for parent-run childcare facilities
Living with children and training/university/work – and as a single parent to boot!
Although Münster does have enough daycare provision, for children under three it can still be difficult to find a place which is close to home.
Eltern helfen Eltern e.V. was founded in 1985 to try to improve the provision of extrafamilial childcare. The association now has 63 member parent-run daycare centres. Setting up a new daycare centre in Münster is now, however, almost impossible.
The association also represents nearly 30 playgroups, at which between six and ten children aged from 2 to 3½ are looked after by one nursery nurse and one parent (on a rota system) two to three times per week. These groups offer young children contact with children of their own age and give parents a little free time, but by their nature are of no help to parents who need to combine a family and work/university.
Information on and details of the philosophies of all of the daycare centres and many of the playgroups can be found on the association’s website, below.
The website also includes information on free places at both daycare centres and playgroups.
